A French name for Certification. An alternative term or any additional authentication required for international acceptance of legal documents, including (but not limited to) adoption papers, affidavits, birth certificates, contracts, death certificates, deeds, diplomas, degrees, divorce decrees, incorporation papers, marriage certificates, patent applications, powers of attorney, and school transcripts
Instituted by the 'Hague Convention Abolishing The Requirements of Legalization for Foreign Documents' of 1961 obviates the objective of “ the requirements of diplomatic or consular legalization” in turn replacing the burden of 'chain authentication method' that calls for verification by multiple authorities.
As prescribed by the Convention, an apostille is a pre-printed small form having ten numbered items of information with blank spaces to be filled in by the designated authority to accept apostilles of the other signatory countries.
UAE (United Arab Emirates) is not a member of the Hague Apotille Convention and so any official document destined for this country will receive a Certificate from the Secretary of State.
Legalizing documents for UAE may require additional steps before the documents can be presented to the UAE Embassy or Consulate Office.
